@iszty88: Belarminio Antonio Rodríguez (also known as “Papito”)(1 c. 1944), a private in the Dominican Army from La Palmita, San José de las Matas, killed 5 people and wounded at least 9 - 12 others with a Mauser rifle in Mao, Valverde Province, Dominican Republic, on the night of 24 March 1968. Rodríguez, reportedly despondent over a failed romance with teacher Reina Mercedes Cueto Ureña and under the influence of alcohol, deserted the General Benito Monción fortress in Mao armed with his service Mauser and a large quantity of ammunition. He first attempted to kill his former girlfriend and her parents but they escaped. He then randomly or selectively shot people in the streets and square, killing Luis Manuel Gómez (Compai), Alejo Martínez, Juana María (or Juan María) Peralta Suero, Salvador de Jesús Pichardo Taveras, and others (including a 5-year-old girl, Graciela Rosario or Yani Morel in some accounts). Among the wounded were several civilians, some seriously (one child lost an arm). He was later arrested by an army patrol. An official commission investigated the incident. Rodríguez was imprisoned at San Luis prison in Santiago and released after approximately two years. The case caused deep mourning in Mao and remains a notable local tragedy #targetaudience #fyp
