Bravo Alessandro!

Questions I get every day: “Why has NO ONE ever told me I have a tongue tie?” Usually, this comes from someone who has been going to the dentist every 6 months for YEARS. So how can something inside the mouth go unnoticed for that long? Because not every dental professional has been trained to look at the mouth through an airway + function lens. Traditionally, dentistry has focused heavily on: 🦷 Teeth 🪥 Gums 🦠 Cavities 😬 Bite All of that matters. But when I look inside your mouth, I am also asking: - Can your tongue move the way it should? - Are you breathing through your nose? - Are there signs of poor sleep or airway dysfunction? - Are you clenching or grinding? - Does your tongue actually have enough room in your palate? - How are you chewing and swallowing? - Can you comfortably maintain lip seal? Because a tongue tie is not just about whether you can stick your tongue out. It is about function. And this is where dental professionals have such a huge opportunity. We are already looking inside your mouth. Sometimes for 30–60+ minutes at a time. We may be one of the first people in a position to notice that something is not functioning the way it should. That does not mean every dentist has to diagnose or treat everything. Sometimes the most valuable thing we can do is: Notice it. Ask better questions. Educate the patient. Refer to the right person. That is why finding an airway-aware dentist, orthodontist, or myofunctional therapist can make such a difference. They are not only looking at your teeth. They are looking at what your mouth may be telling us about the bigger picture. And if I do not know the answer? I will tell you. Then I will do everything I can to help you find someone who does. Have you gone to an airway aware provider? #TongueTie #AirwayHealth #DentalAwareness #MouthFunction #MyofunctionalTherapy
