🇬🇧 ENGLAND IS CHALLENGING BEAUTY STANDARDS — AND THE REASON IS POWERFUL. 👑 In a world dominated by beauty filters, edited selfies, and unrealistic expectations, one beauty pageant contestant made history by choosing to compete without makeup. In 2022, Melisa Raouf, a 20-year-old student from London, became the first contestant in Miss England's 94-year history to reach the final completely makeup-free. ❤️ Her decision wasn't about proving that makeup is bad. It was about showing that women shouldn't feel pressured to hide their natural appearance to be considered beautiful. And the movement didn't stop there. In 2023, the Miss England organization took the idea even further with a makeup-free Miss London competition, where contestants walked the runway without cosmetics. The winner was Natasha Beresford, a 26-year-old dental nurse who stood out in a competition celebrating natural beauty. The Miss England organization has continued its Bare Face Top Model round, encouraging contestants to embrace their natural appearance without makeup. ✨ The message? Beauty doesn't have to mean perfection. You don't need filters, expensive cosmetics, or someone else's definition of beauty to feel confident in your own skin. Makeup can be fun, creative, and empowering — but wearing it should always be a choice, never an obligation. 💬 YOUR TURN: Should more beauty pageants around the world introduce makeup-free competitions, or should contestants have complete freedom to choose whether they wear makeup? The biggest one weighed almost 650 kilograms (about 1,400 pounds) on average, and a single elephant bird egg held about as much as 150 chicken eggs. Elephant birds lived on Madagascar. A 2018 study of their bones moved the largest one into a new genus, Vorombe, and called Vorombe titan the world's largest bird. It stood up to about 3 meters (10 feet) tall. In the 1990s, DNA work pointed to Australia's emus and cassowaries as the kiwi's closest living relatives. Then in 2014, scientists pulled ancient DNA from the bones of two elephant birds held by Te Papa, New Zealand's national museum. The kiwi's closest relative turned out to be the elephant bird. The researchers concluded that their shared ancestors could fly, and that the two lines lost flight separately. Elephant birds died out about 1,000 years ago, and how much people were to blame is still not clear. The largest bird known has its nearest living family in a bird the size of a chicken.
