@glossolali.a: POV: you've time travelled to Iron Age Britannia and you hear this... The Carnyx was a bronze war trumpet utilised by the Celts, from Britannia to Gaul and beyond. It is well known for its ominous wailing sound - and would have been an intimidating sound to even the most veteran Roman legionaries. The Romans addressed their effect, including an eye witness account by Polybius recounting the ominous instruments used in the epic Battle of Telamon. The Carnyx is well loved today - as well as being played by enthusiasts in the present day, it appears in the movie Gladiator, Asterix comics and in Sid Meier's Civilisation VI. What's your favourite ominous instrument from history? #carnyx #celtic #celts #gaul #gladiator
