(BTW yall, this is ophthalmic ointment, basically Vaseline for the eyes, provides an intensive overnight treatment for dry eye. can be bought safely over the counter, under the name Systane ophthalmic ointment or Genteal ointment, very good for your eyes)

It’s like artificial tears but thicker otherwise called an ointment to help keep the surface moisturized. It’s used predominantly at bed time since it typically blurs vision due to how thick it is. This will not prevent someone from needing correction.

What is it for? And why is it a gel and not watery? Genuinely curious

If you guys don’t know, it’s almost a sort of watery and somehow also oily (ish) Vaseline substance you put in your eyes at night to sleep. There’s probably different kinds but I use one called “Refresh PM” I just got it at Walmart per instructions of my eye doctor. You shouldn’t really use it for fun it’s for dry eyes but I mean I don’t think it’ll hurt you if you do, don’t know why you’d do it without dry eyes but hey live your life. I personally have increasingly worse dry eyes, and apparently my eye doctor thinks I sleep with my eyes a bit open so I put this in at night to sleep because it creates a protective barrier while you sleep and keeps them from drying out. If I don’t wear it a lot of the times I wake up and my eyesight is blurry because my eyes are so dry and are red. Only thing that sucks is if you put too much in and you weren’t planning to immediately go to sleep your vision is too blurry and you kinda have no choice but to sleep. But if you don’t put too much in then you can usually still see with it in and play on your phone or wind down in bed. You should only put the tiniest drop in your lower lash line and blink a little to spread it across your eye and that’s it. Hers could be different or prescription so I would just read the directions of whichever one you buy to apply it properly!

You know you don’t have to put it directly on your eyeball, just put it above your waterline and blink, it’s a lot easier

Please don’t put that tip near your cornea. Please instill it with clean fingers. All you need is a twitch in your hand or body, or someone come behind you, and it’ll abrade your eye.

i used to have to use geavy balm in my eyes during nights, because my corneas would constantly tear during sleep and i would wake up in massive pain that could last for days, then i switched to wearing contacts 24/7 and i am mostly pain free 🙂‍↕️
