@calmmoneycoach: Am I okay? Where do I draw from? What could break it? And what happens if one of us dies? I took one couple and answered all 4 on a real plan. Anne's 60 and the breadwinner, Rob's 58, Ontario, both stopping at 63. $1.26 million saved, no work pensions, $85,000 a year to spend. Are they okay? CPP and OAS cover about half their spending once both are on. The heavy years are 63 to 66, before the pensions arrive, about $224,000 out of savings. After that they're roughly fully funded. Where do they draw from? I ran 14 orders. They spend the same in 13 of them, and what's left at the end is about $500,000 apart. The winner uses the cheap years right after work stops. What could break it? They survive retiring into 1966, the worst year on record. A private care home at 90 is what runs them out of money, and that's what the cushion is for. What if one of them dies? OAS stops, CPP gets capped, and guaranteed income falls about 40 percent. The property tax stays the same. 6 things I'd keep: 1. Find your floor, then your bridge. 2. Hold the bridge safe, and know your trim. 3. Draw in the cheap years. 4. Pick the plan for what you want. 5. Look at a death both ways. 6. Re-run it every year. Rob and Anne are an anonymized example household. The planner, the guides, the calculator library and a live Q&A every month are in my community. Free guides are on my email list. What about average earners who don’t own a home and have average level of retirement savings?

Hardly anyone has 1.6M when retiring. This is so unrealistic

The hardest part about retirement will be trying to think about all this.

I feel like these examples are out of touch with reality. Who da fak is retiring with 1.2 million in the bank. Us regular people will be lucky to retire with $500k. If that.

Losing a spouse is a huge financial hit, especially in early retirement. There needs to be more equitable rules for the surviving spouse.

Can you talk about life insurance that gets paid after “last to die” I think it is called? If your RSP is 1.3m combined and plan to take out 140k for 4-5 yrs before we take OAS and CPP. Is life insurance a good investment.

I can personally attest to how comprehensive this planner is. It can be a bit overwhelming to be honest but there is a simple mode and detailed. So you just start out simple and as you learn more you’ll start using the detailed mode. Everything is explained well throughout too. It’s a game changer for me!
