Did your parents come to terms with each other the older you got? Were they civil before your mom passed?

maybe he wasn't but toward the end he couldn't take care of himself or mental illness so nothing left, all the mess, etc.

my mom turned into a hoarder after I moved out. I hadnt been to their house for 3 years, the day she died i walked in and was HORRIFIED. prior had been more clutter than what was normal for her. the woman used to he a clean freak, every Saturday morning windows wide open, music playing and she would clean from top to bottom every room. so much so I have trauma from being screamed at about cleaning... so when I saw what she literally dropped dead in... that was more traumatizing then her actually dying. so i can definitely relate. my sister is a total hoarder ive had to help her clean so many times. to get ready for her sons bday party it took 2 weeks to get the house in some form of order, and with in a week it was back. I stopped. I couldnt do it anymore. my mental health can make me not do anything and stuff will get kinda bad, but once those images pop in... no ma'am wash a dish lol

He could have been experiencing the beginning of dementia (the signs are not obvious at first unless you really analyze them) or feeling physically ill and hiding it. Both can lead to hoarding in older age.

My mom is 79 and her liver is going bad from health issues over the years (not alcohol). Her behavior has changed and I thought it was medication side effects but apparently when your liver isn’t working well it allows too much ammonia into your brain and you start to act really weird. Sounds like he had some health issues that weren’t visible. Getting old is a gamble!!!

My dad became a hoarder after my parents divorced. My mom married another type of hoarder whose house is clean but so packed with furniture and gadgets that you can barely walk through. I have panic attacks going into their house. But they have a maid and they are not untidy, so it stays pretty clean.

I grew up like this. Then had to come back and clean out the house rats etc. my dad lives in it now and still gets mad I through out certain things. Sir they had rat shit all over it🤪

My FIL was a hoarder. It took 7 dumpsters to clean the place out after he passed. It was so hard. I felt so guilty throwing everything away but we had no choice.
