I never want a first date to be expensive, not that I bother dating these days. But when I did I preferred a coffee shop, I buy my own drink, and after an hour (or less) then it’s over. If we decide to have a longer date then we can discuss restaurants and pickup and all that. As GenX I was always taught that I should have the money to pay for the entire meal just in case and having a man buy dinner often comes with expectations of something else that I want off the table.

Everyone needs to date their equal. I don’t have issues finding men who will date me and pay for the dates. I’m not asking him to pay my bills either…I can take care of myself and I have taken myself out on dates and even done solo trips so if a man thinks I’m going to pay or split the check I may as well go out by myself. Women don’t need men…that’s the bottom line.

Yep, you are correct. Men are still expected to pay. But once you got into a relationship, I would not expect that to continue. Also, why do you always have to go somewhere on a date that’s expensive. But if the guy said let’s split this on a date that would be the last date we would go on.😏
