From my understanding if you get money to buy a house the bank requires a letter stating that it is a gift so therefore the parents have no legal entitlement to get that money back

You can name a child anything and then call them something completely different. They should give the money back or change the child’s name and keep calling her whatever they want to.

Crazy. But it’s an oral contract so they will get their money back. Also I thought banks down allow use of conditional money/loans do down payments. She should have named the child after the grandma and given the child the middle name she wanted and then started using the middle name.

everyone here sucks. that deal is crazy to start with, but taking the money agreeing to the stipulation then not following through and claim it is a gift is bad. maybe the best thing to do it get it in writing that if the house is sold parents get money back first, or parents just forget it all together for sake of their granddaughter

They gave it under the condition she named the baby after the grandmother. She shouldn’t have accepted the money and the parents are weird for doing that. She needs to pay them back.
