My buddy bought a corvette, bank lost the loan. He went to make the first payment and they said they had no record of the loan. He asked if they could send the title then. They said... sure. Free Corvette. Thanks navy federal.

If that CD was cashed in. You better believe the bank would have a record of it. The fact that they can't produce a receipt means they still owe that money and they know it.

I had $20,000 in my bank which I didn't touch for almost 7 years. do you know they sent me a letter saying they were going to close the account and take the money because I wasn't using the money because I decided to save it so I didn't see the letter. I would have lost $20,000

This is one of the reasons why banks from the states can't operate in Canada. The restrictions are way too high so banks like this can't easily screw their customers.

To me, it seems that the complainant can’t prove that he had a balance on the CD at the time of transfer. The letter could have been generated because of a $0 account on the books.

I’m worked for a bank up until 1994 and it was a Savings & Loan, the bank was taken over by the Resolution Trust Corporation and we received a ledger listing a bunch of dormant accounts that were going to go to the government if we couldn’t contact the customers within a 60 day period. It was the most interesting area that I worked in and so gratifying to track down these customers so they wouldn’t lose their money. My proudest moment was tracking an elderly person that was in a nice assisted living facility that was almost out of funds and would be placed in a “dive” place ASAP, with some help from Social Security, we tracked down a niece and were able to send her over $ 100k that the family was not aware of. People, make sure you keep track of your elderly parents and grandparents funds, I’m only 65 but I’ve given all my bank account statements, IRA statements and life insurance policies to my children and grandchildren so they know what to do when my time comes.
