They don't care about iron deficiency. Only haemoglobin anemia. You'll have to pay to get a infusion

Mine was 8. They wouldn't do an infusion. Basically we can't absorb iron from food if we have dairy with it... so like steak and butter. Butter stops it absorbing. Caffeine also stops it. So coke with food... not a good idea , coffee or tea close to iron rich food is bad idea. Orange juice helps it absorb so drink more of that. Boots sell liquid iron sachets . Get some and have one every other day with some OJ. Start eating iron rush food with a glass of OJ or dissolvable but c. Got mine up to over 50 doing this. Still working on getting it higher . The liquid iron absorbs better too

Under 11 isn’t normal. Generally levels for women should be between 11 to 307 ng/mL. Optimum targets are about 50-100 but generally we’d say anything under 30 is deficient

Its not normal, mine was 12 and they told me it was normal, try and get your ferritin to 100 hun. The NHS is shiii, whats defined as normal varies from lab to lab. My doctors changed labs and the new range was anything below 30 was abnormal.

11 is very low. In March mine came back as 9. 6 months later it’s now 30. Which is still low. I have finally been referred to the gastro team to hopefully get an iron infusion.

I gave up eventually and asked the receptionist to send me my blood test results and I've researched and sorted it myself through supplements. I got laughed at until my blood work came back significantly better.. Absolutely shocking though when the staff at Holland and Barrett's are more helpful than your GP's 🤦♀️

My ferritin is 11 and haemoglobin is 117 if got started on ferrous fumerate that made me violently ill the GP recommend I get these so had to buy them off Amazon they are more absorbable and gentle on your tummy. I’d try these but keep investing.

I was in A&E with heart palpitations with ferritin of 14. Doctor gave me tablets for 3 months immediately. It's now up to 75 but I need to go bsck and speak to them as I have heavy periods and feel like it's just going to sink again! Under 30 is deficient, under 15 means your body has NO STORE OF IRON AT ALL!

Also, low iron causes heavy periods. When your iron goes up, your periods get lighter and the pain is less generally, not for everyone though.

The Ferritin number on its own doesn’t mean you have an issue. There is another two or three iron numbers they look at too. They look at your haemoglobin and red blood cells. Also transferrin saturation and iron binding. Ferritin on its own doesn’t give the full picture. I am sure if you were really anaemic your gp. would have suggested medication. Also iron infusion are not really great and often don’t help people.

Anytime you get a blood tests etc always ask for the results on paper. The NHS is awful for what’s an acceptable level.

Nothing worse, you actually start to feel like you are going crazy aswell like do you actually feel like this. I had low iron & b12 so definitely push to get both checked. If you have low b12 you can’t absorb iron & both make you feel awful! Hope u get it sorted, keep pushing & advocating for yourself because no one else will! ❤️

iron infusions are not normally considered unless ur hb is under 100.
ferritin is normally between 13 and 150

🧸 :
A ferritin under 30 is iron deficiency, if you have a hemoglobin usually under 120 depending on the lab results is anemia. Sometimes lab results are lower or higher some have some ridiculous ranges. I think it depends on how many people in area with low levels. What are the lab ranges for your area and what is your hemoglobin
