Tamagotchi is a Japanese play on words. The word for friend is tomodachi. The word for egg is tama. And the capsule vending machine (where you put in a quarter, turn the knob, and a little toy inside a plastic ball pops out) is called gatchapon. So smash those all together and you get an egg capsule friend, or tamagotchi!

Yes, each time I got she does have a name and there are multiple care types. Best care medium care best care worst care bad care worst care you and if it dies, it’s just gone and you can either hit the reset button on the back or press a and be at the same time if you would like more just ask

I got my first tamagotchi for Christmas in the third grade. I was so excited and brought it to school after break to show my friends and the teacher took it until the end of the school year for having it out. I’ll never forgive Mrs.Bataman for that

As an adult I collect tamagotchis since I only had one as a kid. I swap them out every couple weeks so everyone still gets to experience existence. Each tamagotchi has a different name based on how it looks which stems from its care in each life stage

both the systems and the creatures are called tamagotchi to my knowledge, but each critter has a different species/character name, for example the ones you drew here were kusatchi (the little pot plant one) and kuchipatchi (the kind of pear looking one)
