@cedichronicles: Most people assume the next UN Secretary-General gets voted on. Not quite. Article 97 of the UN Charter says the job is "appointed by the General Assembly”, but that's only half the sentence. The other half, "upon the recommendation of the Security Council," is where the P5 (US, UK, China, Russia, France) get to veto anyone they don't want before it ever reaches a vote. The exact same phrase appears five times in the Charter, controlling who joins the UN, who gets suspended, and who gets expelled.
