@wmmajors: 🇩🇪 Brandenburg Greats 🇩🇪 Twenty years ago, Haile Gebrselassie began an unprecedented period of domination in the German capital when he won the BMW BERLIN-MARATHON. The Ethiopian legend pulverised the field in 2006, crossing the line almost five minutes ahead of countryman Gudisa Shentema, marking the inaugural year of the Abbott World Marathon Majors in some style. Gebrselassie returned a year later to smash the world record, clocking 2:04:26, which he then lowered to 2:03:59 on the same course 12 months later, making history by being the first runner to go sub-2:04. He extended his winning sequence the following year, triumphing in Berlin for the fourth time in succession, a feat yet to be matched in Majors history.
