@cspanofficial: President Trump spoke Tuesday about a deal he said gives the U.S. "permanent control over security and all the other needs" of Greenland, a semi-autonomous territory of NATO ally Denmark. "We will have the complete ability to do what is necessary to defend the American continent and also Europe and other places," he said at the United Nations General Assembly. "No U.S. adversary will ever be permitted to establish a military presence in Greenland anymore or make sensitive investments there without our express written approval." The president also said the U.S. would "immediately" begin the process of developing a "large military presence" on the island, including two "very major" military bases. "By expanding America's footprint in the Arctic and North Atlantic, this deal also protects Europe in addition to America and greatly protects them," he said. "It also very much enhances NATO … which is now growing stronger than ever before."
