I actually appreciate 1984 more now because in that book it describes a machine that a user can put a prompt into and it’ll create for them some cheap, generic algorthithmically produced fiction for them to read. Sounds very similar to generative ai.

Children of men is so realistic in its depiction of dystopia. Life still goes on and some even pretend it’s fine and some others benefit and profit from it. In reality it’s a living nightmare if you aren’t playing along. I love it because it shows the rawness of humanity in all its forms

We kind of do have the “inexplicable infertility” in the sense that the birth rate is falling and no one my age (millennial) wants to have kids, or at least at a much lower rate. They can’t explain it case its caused by capitalism and they dont want to admit it
