I am a Montessori teacher and this has many similarities to materials in my classroom! Many different things can be “taught” through this or it can broken down to isolate the difficulty for younger students or learners who need differentiated instruction! we generally begin first by isolating the difficulty of the material and build up over time by using more language and adding extension such as cards like those. I love a material like this because it is so many materials in one!
