@artrelit: Shishkin didn’t paint forests as scenery, he painted them as something alive. Every tree feels rooted, heavy and impossibly detailed, the light filtering through the branches making the landscape feel almost untouched by time. His forests aren’t romanticized into something perfect, they feel vast, quiet and real. You can almost hear the wind moving through the pines and feel how small you are standing among them. Nothing needs to happen in his paintings. The forest itself is enough.
