I don’t believe your doctor said that. It’s a well known issue with insulin pumps. They tell you about this in the OmniPod training, and the tandem training.

The fact that this happens due to cabin pressure is sadly just another thing to deal with, but the fact that there are doctors and nurses trying to tell people it doesn’t happen is a huge problem 🤦♀️

I always get my numbers up to 300-400 before flights depending on how long it is, because of diabetes we get an extra free carry on! So I pack lots of snacks 🥰

I almost died on a spirit airline flight bc (I didn’t realize at the time) this happened and my sugar plummeted to LOW I was dizzy, sweating, puking all over myself in my seat and had already ate all my food. I flew spirit airlines and they said they didn’t have any regular pop or juice on board so they old ladies next to me were passing my little candies and sugar packets. 🫨

Happens to me all the time! I always pause insulin at least 30 min before takeoff to avoid this if possible. Also I always carry extra sprite and snacks on me! Gives me flight anxiety for sure!

I’ve alway called mine “baggage claim lows” because ofc after sitting for an extended time and snacking 🫢 I get up to head to baggage claim and as soon as my blood starts pumping all that insulin that was just sitting in my system is moving and usually as soon as your baggage arrives you’re double down, eating all the snacks, and shaking 😅

I always disconnect my Tandem site before take off and before descent when I fly. I usually reconnect when the plane reaches its cruising altitude and that’s helped me prevent lows on flights from pressure pushing insulin through. Bummer that with the omnipod that isn’t an option and it’s get the extra insulin or take the whole thing off /:

I feel like this is actually really important for a flight attendant to know if somebody passes out on a flight to immediately check to see if they have an Omni pod (honestly they may receive training on this, and I have no idea though)

We didn’t experience this with mobi, idk if that makes a difference with pumps. This is super scary when we flew I was terrified of this happening to my kiddo! 🫂

Does this mean I’d have to take my sons Omnipod out of auto mode ? Thanks he’s only had T1d 1 year and they told us to just take our supplies with us nothing about this ?
