Abraham never spoke Hebrew, he was a Chaldean. Hebrew is a Canaanite language, related to Phoenician and Moabite. At first, it wasn’t even called Hebrew, that name came later, tied to the ancestor Eber. Abraham came from Mesopotamia, but once his family settled in Canaan, they picked up the local language. When famine hit, they moved to Egypt, and after returning, their version of the Canaanite language stuck around and eventually became known as Hebrew. Tradition says it’s named after Eber, though he never actually spoke it.

He was called Hebrew because he lives in Hebron near the maple tree. Jacob never called Hebrew because he wasn’t grew up in Hebron but in mesopotamia. He went back to canaan after a long year with his four wives and 13 children.
