An additional note for people upset by this: In 95% of physical tasks/reactions/etc I’ve been in, both as a player and DM, it has been “athletics or acrobatics”, and all that changes is the flavor/how you do the thing. Most DMs in my experience give the option FROM THE BEGINNING. And DMs are human. It’s just as likely that BLeeM was like “oh shit I shoulda said acrobatics or athletics” rather than “hmm how do I make this actually a success”. Not that there’s anything wrong with the latter either IMO, as long as the DM honors TERRIBLE rolls and doesn’t just hand everything over, it’s reasonable to make calls like that. I did it all the time as a DM, more often than not in order to correct MY mistake because in a game-time decision I set the DC to high or didn’t think through the situation fast enough. Being able to course-correct like that is a mark of a good DM, and not cheating.
