when I was a young boy in 1980 apartheid South Africa I watched my late mother give an almost identical speech to a room of her fellow teachers days before we were thrown out of the country. 2 of them then spat in her face. You have achieved the same clarity, empathy, and understanding as she did in 35 years of watching evil become the everyday. You are a marvel and a hero and you just made a 50 year old man cry.

Thank you for this. I genuinely believe a lot of people are having a difficult time processing what Israel is doing to Palestine, because they are so accustomed to feeling so sorry for what happened to European Jews during World War II and the Holocaust, and it’s therefore very difficult to process and hold these two realities together. Yet, it must be done.
