in the UK generally it's considered rude to clear until everyone is done. it suggests you are hurrying them up

in Sweden we wait untill everyone is done. But we take empty glasses and bottles and asking if they want more to drink. But we do NOT take plates If one is still eating.

Was literally threatened once trying to take plates away when the table ALL HAD EMPTY PLATES! They threatened me with the 🔪 because “Tony’s not done yet!” Ok, well I literally just watched “Tony” scoop up the literal last bite from his plate, chew it and swallow it so….🤷🏻♀️10 seconds later, and I’m not joking there, the 🔪 guy goes “ok, he’s done. NOW you can clear this trash from my view! And BE QUICK ABOUT IT!” ….excuse the fuck out of me for DOING MY LITERAL JOB I guess? There were 5 of them, so just under our “parties of 6 or more have an automatic 20% gratuity added” and they racked up a $360 tab at Olive Garden of all places. Can you guess who got stiffed and got ZERO TIP?! 😒😒😒🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️🤦🏻♀️

I’m not gonna lie when I was eating out with my parents once and our server waited til we were all done to clear our plates, my dad made a comment about how thoughtful and polite that was and gave our server a bigger tip for it 😂

That's fine dining rules. Used to work at a bistro. Hated customers who did this. Serve on right, serve ladies first, then clear from left. I'm like SIR we use PAPER napkins for goodness sake 🙄

i have got to be honest, I could not give less of a shit when the plates get cleared. my issue is that im extremely picky and often leave a lot of offcuts on my plate, and theres no good way to signal that I am done I just dont have an empty plate (yes I know about the cutlery thing. but not everyone else does)

Waiting until everyone is finished, seems wild to me. Especially at places where you have multiple plates for appetizers and sides. I'd much rather have the additional space available on the table.
