The imo the real problem with the Ballond'or is the time when voting begins and stops ,cuz journalists are prone to recency bias. Like Kane can have a historic season but not win the Ucl and starts the next season poorly ,and then someone like Yamal can win a WC but not be great at all and start the next season like a house on fire. The journalists will choose Yamal because the ceremony is long after the season has begun so recency bias is unavoidable
