@drj1189: Exodus 24 changes the way you hear Jesus say, “This is My blood of the covenant.” At Sinai, Israel heard the terms of the covenant, agreed to obey them, and the covenant was sealed with sacrificial blood. Then something extraordinary happened: Israel’s leaders went up the mountain, saw the God of Israel, and ate and drank in His presence. Because covenant was never only about rules. God desired relationship. Fellowship. Nearness. But there was still distance. There were still boundaries. And almost immediately after promising obedience, Israel broke the covenant. They needed more than laws. They needed a better mediator. A better covenant. And better blood. So centuries later, when Jesus lifted the cup and said, “This is My blood of the covenant,” He wasn’t introducing a new idea.
