Yeah I’m never leaving where I work, my truck is well maintained but not by me and I’m the driver, I literally know when I need service based on the mileage and that’s about it, have a shop with a mechanic and a lower totem pole guy who will grease and inspect brakes weekly, DOT inspections are done like clock work yearly, again not by me. Paid by the hour, 55-60 hours a week 100 grand a year. No stress.

A lot of company drivers don’t want to report faults or broken parts and put in repair requests because they think they will be blamed.

Company drivers from medium to large fleets are conditioned to treat trucks like they’re disposable. Then they buy their own and have the same mindset. I tell people don’t treat your truck like a one way ATM. You have to put money in if you expect to get money out.

We grease all our trucks every 2 weeks. We find 95 percent of the problems before they become a real issue. A lot of guys don’t wanna put in the work after trucking all week but it’s more than worth it to me.

Exactly a big chunk of a driver training in the school should be how these machines work back in the day we learned from the senior drivers the teacher things kind of took you under your wings. We don’t have that anymore, the term steering wheel holder is very much true not because of their fault just the way the industry has been going
