My mother is one of 9 children raised by a schizophrenic mother. There are many deep emotional wounds in her. My struggles pale in comparison. So they were just brushed aside. Unfortunately it comes off uncaring to me. I understand where she comes from, I have compassion for her and I give her a ton of grace forever. But I still deserve to be loved back.

Whewww don’t get me started Pat….she also trained me to deal with my dads anger and make concessions in the way she did asking me to understand her complicated marriage before I understood my relationship with my dad. And yet I love my mother because I understand (or rather was made to understand) her why

My mom was just barely 17 when I was born and she treated me as her friend, her sister, her confidante...I knew too much about her and her actions put me in a position of judging her character and protecting my younger sisters from her. I moved 3800 km across the country to get away from her. Now I have a daughter and a granddaughter. We are constantly dealing with the generational trauma left by my mom. There is nothing I want to pass on to that sweet granddaughter except joy, strength, and courage.

and when I tried to tell her what being that child was like .. all she responded with was her victimization and how I became part of the problem. She had me to love her and not to have someone to love and it became clear.

I set firm boundaries with my mom in a compassionate way and she still calls me hateful and says I “brutalized” her. 🙄
