I’m a psychologist and part of the reason I enjoy working with middle schoolers is because I remember middle school so vividly. I cried every day of 7th grade for so many different reasons, but every day. And everything is SO embarrassing. And I talk to other people and it’s like they have no recollection of how terrible middle school was. And that’s why kids think adults don’t understand - half the population blocked out the trauma that was middle school! A little validation goes a long way with a 7th grader! (But now I’m getting so old that I’m “cringe” to them.)
