@parentingwithbec: Natural and logical consequences help children learn from their behaviour without using punishment or shame. A natural consequence happens as a direct result of a child’s actions without the parent creating it, such as feeling cold after refusing to wear a jumper. A logical consequence is a calm, related boundary set by the parent, such as leaving a shop when a child is throwing or hitting. Both can help children understand that their choices have consequences while feeling supported, respected and connected.

Do you have any tips on navigating toddlers around pets? My 16 month old keeps grabbing our 2 dogs.. like grabbing fist fulls of their fur & yanking & then laughing when I raise my voice at him. I don’t raise my voice a lot so he just sees he is getting a reaction & thinks it’s funny. I have taken him away each time & told him no & that we have to be gentle. I’ve shown him how to pat the dogs nicely over & over but he keeps doing it. I keep them separate as much as I can & supervise him around them but he is so quick.. as he is still very young it’s not like I can explain to him why it’s wrong & it doesn’t help that the poor pups just take it they never growl at him or get upset in any way but I’m scared one day they will snap at him

how would you deal with a 4 year old running off in the car park while you're trying to put your baby in the car seat? my 4 year old ran around the car, because she's just learned to open the door herself and was excited to do it but I turned around and she was gone and I got scared and yelled at her (which I know isn't good on my part) and she said she just wanted to open the door but I said she can't go by herself in the car park because a car could hit her. usually she climbs under baby's seat to her side while I put the baby in and then strap her up but this time she didn't

I have interesting thoughts about her hearing you explain all this to tiktok. Its almost like a debrief. Here are the things she did, why it was not okay and the consequences. No anger, no emotion, just facts - and you gave her space to explain her feelings along the way.

I think every parent wants to do this but it’s hard to help your child regulate when you don’t know how to do it urself. Do you teach on that? I wish I could articilate myself that way and be able to hold myself the way you do. How did you learn to do that? That’s what needs to be taught 🫶
