most likely the first cycle was to chamber a round, after firing we don't see him cycle again. so no shell would be visible

pulling the slide (pump) back ejects a spent cartridge, then sliding it forwards chambers a fresh cartidge, rinse and repeat. you legit see him ejecting a spent cartridge at the start and then pumping and firing. if he was to fire another shot yeah he would of had to pull the pump/slide back to again eject it. this is my basic understanding of it and I live in a country that is heavily regulated when it comes to guns

so he loaded a shell with the first pump, then shot the shotgun and didn't pump it yet so no shell is gunna magically fly out without that second pump.
