@mazikeensays: I remember seeing that video and thinking ABSOLUTELY THE FUCK NOT. According to her own story, Black people traveled all the way to Palestine to HELP and were experiencing racism and feeling unwelcome, and somehow the lesson was that THEY should put those feelings aside because Palestinians were suffering?? Excuse me?! You need my help while I’m supposed to swallow disrespect from the very people I came to help? Being oppressed does not magically make somebody incapable of being anti-Black. And your suffering does not require me to pretend mine suddenly stopped mattering. That’s what opened my eyes to something much bigger. Black people are constantly expected to mule for everybody else’s cause. We’re supposed to show up, march, speak, donate, defend and extend grace, and if we bring up anti-Blackness coming from those same communities, suddenly we’re “making it about us” or somebody starts playing oppression Olympics. NO!! Solidarity is not servitude. You don’t get to demand Black people’s labor, voices or compassion while telling us to overlook hatred directed at us. And if another Black person chooses to overlook that and continue showing up anyway, that’s their decision. But don’t EVER tell me racism is something I need to swallow in order to prove I care about somebody else’s humanity. #blackamericans #fba #racism #palestinian #fyp
