grew up in Sri Lanka during a time of fear and uncertainty. From the age of 9 to 15, life was difficult. We relied on the radio, and limited broadcasts, and many, including Tamils, left the country, searching for safety and opportunity. Now, I see Sri Lankans achieving remarkable things around the world, and I wonder why we so often feel we must leave to succeed. We have talent, skill, and resilience. What if the real lesson from our history is to build a Sri Lanka where future generations don’t feel that need? Where differences don’t divide us and disagreements don’t turn into communal pain. I don’t have all the answers, but I think remembering our past without being trapped by it might be the way forward.
