That ball is a kartoffleknödel. It’s a potato dumpling that’s from the Bavaria region. So your mashed potato guess wasn’t too far off. There are lots of different kinds of knödel in Germany, potato is just one kind! If you have time make sure to get Obatzda which is a Bavarian cheese spread you with with bread or pretzels, and Weißwurst which is a Bavarian white sausage eaten with mustard (and eaten before noon)! Enjoy your time here in Munich ☺️🍻
