@smobyday: Replying to @Ms.Hamilton understanding the difference between an ETF and an index fund is one of the building blocks to becoming financially literate !!💸💄 💌 so an etf is an index fund, and a mutual fund can be an index fund!! ☁️ remember to do your own thorough finance research but also know that educating yourself on your personal finance journey is feminine & hot 🥵🔮 @Sephora @Rare Beauty @Patrick Ta Beauty @Makeup By Mario @Summer Fridays #PersonalFinance #financetips #financialliteracy #financialconfidence #etf
First off, I love your videos. You're teaching me so much! Thank you! Secondly, so we need a Roth IRA and a mutual fund account? And what about a brokerage account? Im so new to this and feel so behind.

I feel like this is how people get confused about finances in general, you say you will explain “the difference” but later go onto say an index fund can be an ETF, when in reality they aren’t really apples to apples in comparison, an ETF is just how a fund is structured and traded, and an index fund is a type of fund itself

ETF vs mutual fund: basically the same thing but you can trade ETF throughout the day. Mutual funds you can only trade once a day, after the market closes. So if you make a trade during the day, you won’t know how much to pay until the end of day price is finalized.

Why do I choose either a mutual fund vs an etf. That’s where I get lost, which one is better when.

For any confused, an ETF is like a bundle of stocks. It’s a literal premade Easter basket of stocks so you don’t have to pick each stock/candy. But this Easter basket (ETF) is what you actually buy. What’s in the basket will either be based on a index, which would be like the grocery stores top 100 most popular Easter basket candies… or it will be actively managed, which would be like the store manager hand picking their top 100 favorite candies. This actively managed fund is referred to as a mutual fund. Hope this helps

Too much yap - etf pooled securities exchange traded supply demand etc passive management less fees no need to distribute gains . Index fund tracks an index S&p500 usually price by NAV once a day distribution of gains to investors low fees but higher than ETFs.
