Position along the axis is median age (the age at which half the population is younger, half older). Labels show the TOP and BOTTOM country in each region every year — so viewers see, at a glance, the oldest and youngest member of each regional group. These labels update dynamically year by year. Values for 2024–2025 are UN short-term projections based on fertility, mortality, and migration trends; prior years are based on census data and vital registration. 📅 DATA COVERAGE • 1950–2020: Historical observations from UN WPP (census + vital registration) • 2021–2025: Short-term projections (UN medium-fertility scenario) — extremely stable within a 2–5 year horizon • All 237 entities have complete annual data across the full 76-year span ⚠️ IMPORTANT CAVEATS • Median age does NOT mean average age.
