X-rays are commonly useful for bones and dense structures. CT combines multiple X-ray measurements into detailed cross-sectional images. MRI uses magnetic fields and radio waves and excels at many soft tissues. Ultrasound uses sound waves for real-time imaging. PET can show metabolic activity using radioactive tracers. Then you’ve got specialized techniques including fluoroscopy, mammography, DEXA, angiography and endoscopy.
