@interstellarspac: 🚨In 5 Billion Years, Our Sun Will Become a Red Giant. ☀️ The Sun won’t remain the same forever. In roughly 5 billion years, after exhausting the hydrogen fuel in its core, the Sun will expand dramatically and enter its red giant phase. 🔴 As the Sun swells, its outer layers will extend far into the inner Solar System. Mercury and Venus are expected to be engulfed by the expanding Sun. NASA says Earth could also be engulfed, although its exact fate remains uncertain. 🌍 Earth’s habitability will end much earlier. As the aging Sun becomes increasingly luminous, Earth’s surface will become far too hot for life as we know it, long before the final red-giant stage. 🌌 Eventually, the Sun will shed its outer layers and leave behind a dense stellar remnant called a white dwarf. The planets that survive the red-giant phase will orbit this much smaller remnant.
