@theartofhealingbytrevor: Strong relationships still have hard conversations. The difference is how you handle them. When conflict happens, try practicing these five relationship boundaries: 1. Don’t disappear when things get hard. It’s okay to take space, but make a clear promise about when you’ll come back. 2. Don’t make your partner guess what you need. Voice your needs and give them the opportunity to respond. 3. If you need a break, ask for one. Then take responsibility for restarting the conversation. 4. Stop trying to win the argument. Instead of deciding who’s right or wrong, seek to understand each other. 5. Don’t prioritize comfort over truth and honesty. Especially when the truth is difficult to say. Try this during your next conflict: “I want to keep talking about this, but I need a little time to regulate. Can we come back to it at ___?” Taking space doesn’t have to mean disconnection. The important part is creating safety by communicating that you’re coming back.
