Sanjay Arora :
It's because of government policies. Build autobahns connecting towns and cities and people will disperse. No one wants to be a mortgage slave for life for a million dollar dog-box. But government policy forces that choice. When people disperse, jobs like retail, entertainment, health and other jobs move with them. Better quality of life, cheaper housing but that doesn't work for big developers, banks and retailers. They want high density cities. That's good for business.

There’s literally nothing to do in regional areas, with the fact that many of these places are really just absolute higher crime dumps. It’s not quite like the USA where there’s actually absolutely beautiful regional areas with lower crimes than the cities.

during covid people were literally locked into their apartments like prisoners. of course they moved. and now covid is over, they've moved back to where there are greater infrastructure and facilities. comparing population movements during covid isn't the same as comparing population growth.
