Tbh i feel like hetalia charcters skin should match what dominant skintone there is in their country ( eg ; east asia : paler people , southeast : darker , tanner skin) , or what skintone there was originally before colonizations etc , like how some filipinos were all brown or darker skin compared to the fact theres more paler filipinos now

I get what you mean, but they’re countries, so for example if someone where to make Japan black, it wouldn’t have an affect on the culture or anything, he’d just be black. The issue with turning characters a different race is that you’re getting rid of representation for culture, heritage, struggles, etc of that specific character. Like if Mexico were canon and someone made him black, he’d still be Mexican, just black too. Does that make sense? I do thing people should keep any features relating to the character’s original race, though

My personal opinion is just that if you really wanna make racebending edits then go ahead, but trying to actually base it on something and make it too serious never works since hetalia characters lit represent their countrys people THROUGHOUT HISTORY even when they havent existed as a nation like for example finland only being a representation of the finnish people under sweden until 1809, trying to make it make sense on why characters like that would be any other ethnicity than what they are just wont work and its not racist to point that out.. (this doesnt rlly apply to countries like usa since white americans arent even ethncially native to the place) i wrote this entire thing without reading the "poc nations" in the post so finns arent the best example but you can apply that to other countries as well so whatever

other poc nations can have dark skin and not automatically be black , but they couldALSO be black while still having their other features aswell like for example blasian people .i just think irs weird if they remove all of their other features to add only black features (im black)
