In my opinion, I classify a sys admin as a person who modifies permissions (365 or apps), or is in charge of AD, or maintains servers.

Looks like I'm a system admin. It's just me and my manager in the IT department and I'm the only one who handles all of this he doesn't even touch it anymore🫡

It was explained to me: Engineers build it, System Admins maintain it.

When you’re overseeing entire systems from start to endpoint, you’re a system administrator.

Sysadmin Tutorials :
Systems Engineers design and build IT environments, whether that means deploying servers, implementing Intune, or integrating new platforms and software.
Systems Administrators manage and maintain those environments through user administration, policies, compliance, patching, troubleshooting, and ongoing support.
There’s overlap, but generally: Engineers build it. Administrators run it. I’ve been both, engineering has a lot more pressure but more fun, administration is more chill but way less room for error, mistakes are much more noticable

It depends on how big your company is. If your company is less than let’s say, 500 mailboxes, you’re a damn sys admin whether you like it or not
