Telling people to use passcode only is the worst advice you can give. Cameras are everywhere and I can tell you from experience that modern security cameras have zero issue zooming in and reading what you’re typing. Have a strong alphanumeric passcode, but use biometrics in public. For both Android and iOS, simply turn your phone off or restart it before going through customs. This will put your phone in a before first unlock state and your passcode will be required. Under the 5th, you do NOT have to give your passcode. If you have an iPhone, turn on lockdown mode before going through customs. The FBI, Cellebrite, and GrayKey have all admitted they cannot break into an iPhone in lockdown mode or with recent software updates.
