We have the surgeons, but not the strength to kill the virus. Perhaps there is no turning back. Perhaps we are that cancer. You feel nostalgia for an age you never lived in, an ancient age before all society and its entrails, before the machinery of mass killing, before industrialized human slaughter, before the great advertisements and promotions at your job, before the breakup with your first love, before the failure of your business. Perhaps you long for the world before modern life. When you lost your chance to touch even a fragment of the beautiful and immaculate sky, a feeling of regret, pain, and anguish filled every tissue of your body. It reached into your bone marrow, into every small connection of your nervous system. You felt that everything had ended, your dreams, your name, your entire world. Yet despite everything, the same sun will rise every morning. The trees will remain green and dance with the wind. Light will reflect from the crowns of the pines, and the extraordinary lake will return the rays of the sun through its immaculate, crystal waters. We once feared nature.
