The system was modelled on a 2 parent family with ONE parent staying home... THE PROBLEM is that in modern society we now cannot afford for one parent to stay home anymore... Soooo is it your choice about having children we should attack? Oooorrr is it your choice to have 2 working parents we should attack? Maayyybee its the current school sytem we should attack? NO... its this current economy and the insistance on having a consumer society instead of a self-sustainable society.

We need to go back to a 1 income household society - who cares which gender works. It's ridiculous to expect people to have kids these days when its impossible to pay rent and feed children in the same paycheck unless you have two incomes - thus dropping your children on someone else's lap while both parents work. This system is absurd. If life was cheap enough to make this possible, it wouldn't only benefit parents. People without kids could also share the workload, having only 2 part time jobs, spending more free time together enjoying their hobbies and life, rather than working a full time job to the bone. A 1 income household society benefits *EVERYONE*.

The working day was created based on an unencumbered man’s time who had ZERO childcare or responsibilities to maintain a home. I’d be able to work 40 hours a week with little holidays if I had to do NOTHING once I got home.

People are missing the point entirely. Nobody is saying that ‘teachers should be come baby sitters’ it is pointing out that the system is incompatible. 9-3 schooling with 12 weeks holidays is not compatible with 2 parents working 9-5 with 4 weeks holidays. The system was designed when only one parent had to work and hasn’t changed with the times. This is one of the reasons why so many are now choosing not to have children.
