@history.in.a.jiff: On May 12, 1947, during the Menglianggu Campaign in Shandong, soldiers needed to cross the waist-deep Wen River quickly. Most of the men in the nearby villages were away fighting, and there was no proper bridge or enough construction material. A woman named Li Guifang, who led the local Women’s Rescue Association, gathered 32 women. They took wooden door panels from their homes and placed them across the river. The women then stood in the cold water and supported the panels with their bodies, effectively becoming the pillars of a human bridge. The soldiers were able to cross over them and continue toward the battlefield. The event later became known as the Women’s Fire Line Bridge and was commemorated in Chinese historical exhibitions and sculptures. #china #fyp #war #women #civilwar
