Nicu nurse here! Bruising is a common for many reasons even in a C-section. This can happen if she was sitting a certain way in your belly, if the cord was wrapped, if the doctor had a hard time getting her out, if you labored and she got down in your pelvis and so many other reasons! Ultimately your baby is out and the bruises will go away. There is so much worse that could have happened

Because she just got ripped out of someone else’s body and has no vitamin K to assist with clotting

One of the reasons that vitamin k shot is important. It stops brain bleeds in newborns. Some babies are more prone to easy bleeds. That is what a bruise is. Not saying these bruises are not from rough handling but that is what vit k shots address.

If a baby was in a breech position feet or bottom first or sideways, tight positioning inside the womb can cause localized bruising before delivery. It normally fades away within a couple of weeks. My son got a lil squeeze but he was okay.

Really common if it’s a difficult extraction. Talk with your OB.

Because babies bones are super malleable and birth is very hard on their little bodies.

Being born is really hard work. Even a c-section scoop out can have some very harsh grabs and big pulls on baby. We sorry, hope baby perks up and doesn’t feel so sore very soon.

because she was born early at 34 weeks via a cesarean section which im guessing at 34 weeks was emergency? theres alot of pushing and shoving to get the baby out during a cesarean

Please note that a “C-section” is different from an “emergency C-section”.

I had emergency c-section at 32 weeks with twins. The one who caused all the issues decided she did not want to come out and swam and hid inside me. The doctor was lecturing her big time tell her she rushed up the timeliness and doesn't get to stay now 🤣😂 she had bruises on her legs cause she was fighting him. The nurse looked at me and said you are going to have fun with that one.

Did u ask the nurses? Keep in mind the babies lack the blood clotting factor therefore they get vitamin k injection. Ppl are quick to judge for views.

Babies livers are not fully developed and the liver is what produces the clotting factors. This is why they give vit K to babies when born. Like mentioned in other comments, you had a c-section for a reason. Whether that was because of baby position, previous c-sections, uterus position, etc. All of these things can affect how the baby comes out.

in addition to the good explanations here i just wanted to say that most hospitals do a full newborn assessment within the first hour after birth (assuming breathing is stabilized) and you can ask to see the notes on that. any bruises should be noted (so you can be sure they've been there since birth)
