I always feel terrible but I choose to put him down as an act of mercy in my playthroughs. I feel terrible for Gabe but feel no sympathy to the monsters that are the Think Tank, I can’t help but feel that even if Dr.Borous shows some remorse in the moment that Gabe’s existence would’ve continued to be abused by him.

What I find terrifying about the Think Tank isn't what they do to people or their tech. It's the fact that, even in their madness, you can see a bit of their humanity. That there's a small part of them still alive, seeing the horrors & damage that they're committing, but not able to stop themselves because they're just too far gone. Prisoners in their own minds, with their madness holding the key.
