🇬🇧 May 28, 2013 — Hayle Estuary, Cornwall, England. What began as a planned stunt and filming session ended in tragedy for 28-year-old surf photographer and filmmaker Jacob Cockle. Cockle entered the water at Carnsew Pool wearing a rubber horse mask and carrying a GoPro camera, intending to capture close-up footage of a dangerous whirlpool he had reportedly filmed several times before. The whirlpool formed as the tide rapidly dropped, forcing huge amounts of water through deep underwater sluice tunnels beneath the estuary. The powerful suction created an intense vortex capable of pulling objects and people underwater within seconds. As Cockle moved closer to the swirling current, the force quickly overwhelmed him. He was dragged beneath the surface and pulled into the tunnel system, leaving almost no chance of escape.
