@blindspottheshow: Lamar Brown can’t afford to cross the street at 90th Street and 5th Ave in New York City on his own — not if he wants to avoid getting hit by a car. And he’s not alone. As you’ll hear him say, Lamar is just one of dozens of athletes with visual impairment who cross this intersection every week. On this second episode of Blind Spot, Francesco and Max spoke with Lamar about why intersections like 90th and 5th are unsafe for him to cross alone, and how the Mamdani administration can help. Out of the 13,000 intersections scattered around New York, the good news is that the City is scheduled to retrofit 10,000 by 2031 with Audible Pedestrian Signal technology, or APS for short. The bad news is they don’t always know where to put them, leaving popular intersections like this one unprotected. This is our first intersection, but we promise that it won’t be the last.
