In Erens pov, the rumbling wasn’t the only possible solution, it was the only solution he saw that solved every problem at once. Eren wanted to protect his friends, he wanted to protect Historia from becoming a breeding stock, he wanted to end the titan inheritance, and destroy a 2,000 year cycle before he died. And he was running out of time. He loved his friends and refused to sacrifice people he cared about, if he died without getting eaten, he knew his titan powers would pass to a newborn subject of Ymir somewhere in the world. That would only leave the problem unresolved and pass the power to someone unknown. Eren didn’t want anyone to inherit his titan, especially his friends, he wanted his friends to live a long time. He also hated the idea of Historia producing royal blooded children so that they could keep eating titans in the future. He didn’t want to manage the cycle, he wanted to end it. A small scale rumbling would’ve only brought time and not certainty. It wouldn’t stop royal blood from inheriting titans, and wouldn’t have stopped the curse of Ymir. That meant Paradis would only survive as long as the world continued to fear them. That’s not guaranteed peace. It’s a mutually assured destruction with an explanation date. Technology would catch up with Titan powers and Paradis would find themselves right back to where everything started. don’t forget that they DID try diplomacy. The scouts went to Marley to find people willing to advocate for subjects of Ymir in ep 87. They went to a meeting of a subjects of Ymir protection group and everyone there argued that the main land subjects of Ymir should be protected by separating them from the Paradis devils. It confirmed for Eren if their own people on Marley’s side weren’t willing to redirect their hatred towards his own people then diplomacy for peace wasn’t gonna happen. Eren had already seen what his choices were leading too, and he did try to change it. When he received memories from the future, it became clear to him how every choices he made was eventually leading him to the path of the rumbling. This is getting long.. but yeah that’s why Eren did the rumbling. It solved all those problems at once

No he was wrong and he knew it. But he was also human and selfish enough to save his friends and paradise, at the expense of the world. He was not a hero nor a villain but just a person trying to save HIS world.

Yeah, no one gets it. Some people act like their favorite characters aren't guilty. Even Armin admits to Eren that sometimes I want to kill everyone. We're both guilty, we've got blood on our hands. We'll all be punished in hell together. It's funny how everyone acts like Eren is the only one going to hell. If someone else had been in Eren's place, someone would have made the genocide more violent.

Whole time id do the same shit if I went through the same thing as Eren. If I was put in a position where I shouldered every persons life on Paradis in my hands… if I had to honor every single solider who died protecting me… if I had to honor the death of my mother and my fathers lonely struggle.. If people I never knew existed hated me for being born.. if countries united together to destroy my home and everything living on it.. id do the same thing. But if my family and home was destroyed because of someone retaliating against another country that had nothing to do with me, id be fucking angry too. And thats why I could never form a solid opinion.

the whole point of aot is that eren was a victim who decided to continue the cycle of violence and revenge that had been going on for ages, he had his reasons but we saw ourselves thay there was nations against the marleyons, there was other eldians who whwre stuck in marley and people who where against and innocent kids who where also suffering. eren had a very certain image of freedom and when that wasnt what it was he was full of rage and his revenge took over everything else ( including his love for his friends ), eren is a victim but also is someone who decided to continue a cycle
